What Options Are Available for Tooth Restoration?

tooth restoration

What Is tooth restoration? Restorative dentistry literally means restoring your teeth back to their natural function and appearance. Restoring a tooth can save a tooth from extraction and the complications associated when there is a tooth missing. Restorative treatment not only protects the tooth that is being restored, but the surrounding teeth also benefit.  Gone are the days when people have to live with a missing tooth for the rest of their lives.

Dr. Shane S. Porter, of Premier Dentistry of Eagle, is skilled in various methods of tooth restoration where he can replace missing teeth or repair missing parts of the tooth structure. Click on this website to see some before and after pictures of effective tooth restoration.

Some examples of tooth restoration available at Premier Dentistry of Eagle include the following:

Root Canal Therapy

Millions of teeth are treated and saved by root canal therapy every year, relieving pain and making teeth healthy again. Inside your tooth, beneath the white enamel and a hard layer called dentin, is a soft tissue called pulp. This tissue contains blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue, which help grow the root of your tooth during its development. A fully developed tooth can survive without the pulp because the tooth continues to be nourished by the tissues surrounding it. Saving the natural tooth with root canal treatment has many advantages:

  • Efficient chewing
  • Normal biting force and sensation
  • Natural appearance
  • Protects other teeth from excessive wear or strain

CEREC Same Day Crowns

A crown is a dental “cap” that is used to protect a badly-damaged tooth. A crown restores the appearance of the tooth it covers and helps regain its function. Crowns are often used after a root canal has been performed on a tooth.

Dr. Porter uses the most advanced restorative dental methods available, such as CEREC same day crowns. Thanks to improvements in dental treatments, Dr. Porter can now create natural-looking permanent ceramic crowns in his office. CEREC utilizes 3D photography and CAD/CAM technology to help Dr. Porter design a virtual restoration without taking impressions and, when combined with a milling unit, he is able to build an actual crown while you are still in the dentist’s chair.

Tooth Colored Fillings

If you have a tooth that requires a filling, Dr. Porter will remove any decay, clean the affected area, and then fill the cleaned-out cavity with custom made composite resins that are the color of your natural teeth.

Traditional silver fillings contain 50 percent mercury and as the filling ages, the metal of a silver filling expands, contracts, and can split, leaving the tooth susceptible to additional decay. Tooth colored composite resin fillings are superior in so many ways and they are NOT glaringly silver when you open your mouth. Natural colored fillings add to your confidence and gives you permission to smile wholeheartedly.

Dental Implant Restoration

If you’re missing a tooth, no doubt you feel self-conscious, and carefully watch how you smile or speak as a result. The best solution to this problem is likely a dental implant. Unlike a bridge that can weaken adjacent teeth, implants effectively keep a one tooth problem at that, rather than involving additional surrounding teeth.

  • Implants provide superior benefits and they are stronger than natural teeth.
  • To receive implants, you need to have healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant.
  • Implants require that you are committed to excellent oral hygiene and regular dental visits, which is critical to the long-term success of dental implants.

If you are missing one or more teeth, check out the following information regarding dental implants and contact Premier Dentistry of Eagle at (208) 546-0655. When you meet with Dr. Porter, he will take the time to explain the implant process and answer any questions you may have about the procedure.

Missing Teeth are Only Celebrated When You’re in First Grade

The loss of a permanent tooth can feel catastrophic. When you are missing teeth, smiling can be embarrassing and shameful. People with missing or damaged teeth may avoid social interaction, becoming isolated and depressed as time goes on. That is no way to live, and we can help!

Full Mouth Restoration

When many of your teeth are decayed or damaged, you may feel discouraged and feel hopeless. Dr. Porter wants to assure you that there is no oral problem too severe to be addressed by modern restorative dental treatments. Full mouth restoration involves restoring or replacing many or all of the teeth in your mouth. In order to return your smile to good health and functionality, Dr. Porter may recommend one or more of the following restorative services:

  • Dental bridges
  • Dental crowns
  • Dental implants
  • Dental veneers
  • Dentures (full or partial)

For more information about full mouth restoration, call (208) 546-0655 or visit Premier Dentistry of Eagle today. We are ever committed to helping you feel confident with your smile once again.

It’s important to replace missing teeth! Without timely replacement of missing teeth, you run the risk of:

  • Damage to your surrounding teeth
  • Infection spreading to surrounding teeth and gums or jaw
  • Bacterial infection to the heart and/or brain
  • Having difficulty speaking or eating

As a General and Family Dentist, Dr. Porter also practices Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry and treats patients of all ages in the communities of Eagle, Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Star and Garden Valley. Contact him at (208) 546-0655 for a free consultation.
