Loose-Fitting Dentures Can Be Addressed by Denture Adhesive

Dentures are originally crafted to closely match the unique structure of your gums. This helps them to comfortably replicate the original function of your missing teeth. As time goes by, it’s possible for the underlying bone structure of your mouth to change. This could be a natural result of the aging process or the early stages of a condition which is known as oral atrophy.

As it gradually progresses, the change in the shape of your periodontal structure can cause your dentures to feel slightly loose in your mouth. If you find yourself in a situation like this, you might want to try applying a small bead of denture adhesive.

This might help secure the unit in place while also helping to keep food particles from invading the base of your denture. After installing your denture each morning, you might want to also keep a little of the adhesive with you as you go about your day. This can help with any necessary reapplication.

After you remove your denture each night you should rinse away any residual adhesive before brushing and soaking them overnight. This will ensure a clean surface to reapply denture adhesive to the next morning.

While you are shopping for denture adhesive, you should look for the American Dental Association’s Seal of Acceptance. This small logo on the package shows that the product has been researched and tested to meet the ADA’s guidelines for safety and effectiveness.
