How to Maintain Your White Teeth

A dull, yellowed, and unappealing smile can be problematic. Not only is it unattractive, but it can be a sign of unhealthy teeth. This is why it’s helpful to keep your teeth bright and shining as much as possible. Also, if you’ve just had a professional whitening treatment, you’ll want to keep your smile white as long as possible. Here’s what you can do:

First, avoid eating and drinking products which might stain your teeth. These include coffee, tea, red wine, and dark berries. Should you decide to partake, drink them through a straw, rinse your mouth with water or mouthwash, or brush your teeth afterward to wash away any potential stains.

Second, keep up on your daily oral hygiene routine. Brushing twice a day and flossing once a day will help remove stains. As you do this, use a soft-bristled toothbrush, whitening toothpaste, floss, and antiseptic mouthwash.

Finally, consider trying a touch-up whitening treatment every once in awhile. Depending on the treatment that was used, you might need to re-whiten your smile on a regular basis in order to maintain the luster. Treatments often call for touch-ups every six months or every one or two years. If you smoke or consume a lot of stain-causing products, you’ll need to touch up your smile more than usual.
